The Modern Man's Affair...

Subscribe in a reader The Modern Man's Affair...

This isn't the fifties, sixties, seventies (you get the idea). For the ladies out there watching TV shows where the leading man is having various affairs and hiding it terribly underneath sharp noses, the truth is the modern man is having an affair, an old mistress that's been around a long time;
It's called gaming.

In the old days, dad and grandpa were lingering in the local bar or shop to grab a gander at the local check out girl or waitresses. There was no mobile phone. Hell, there was no internet. They talked about shooting things or fixing cars for fun. Meanwhile, brewing in the homestead were the neglected future men. TV was the babysitter. Sega or Nintendo was the best friend. Swopping games became the new cigarettes.

Now those boys have grown up. And so has gaming. Games are now 18+. Adults only. Somehow the Sony PS4 has become an adult video store, the old nostolgia of the 18+ section long gone. No more staring at a curtained back room, knowing that's just for grown ups. Porn is at our fingertips. Entertainment is instant, and the gratification more-so. This is the modern man. I can't say he doesn't have time to deal with affairs because this is an affair. When the wife or girlfriend shuts the door, this is where he turns. He doesn't have time to deal with real-life drama. He wants to kill things in a virtual world. He wants beer, pizza, poker night and endless missions. He wants to be challenged.

Men, we've been marketed. We don't want to share our Playstation with anybody. Not even our kids. Our ladies are upset because of this affair with gaming. Many of them don't understand it. Days and days playing missions, saved games that we cringe if anyone messes with it, online co-operation that allows us to play against our fellow nerds. It's a lifetime in virtual escapism.

Ladies, would you rather we have a mistress? Who knows. It might be cheaper in the longrun, and god knows it would take up less time... but would it be as satisfying?
